Trying to sketch the butterfly

In the past my morning drive to work used to include a daily phone chat with a friend.  Our very own commuter version of "coffee talk."  However our schedules changed and we eventually commuted at different times so my ride to work (as short as it was - 20 minutes if I hit every light - 25 mins if I got stuck behind a bunch of left turners).  My ride became more quiet (not counting the radio).  The point of this ramble is I have an ADD mind - if I'm awake and newly caffeinated then my mind is a whirlwind of craziness and often some really good ideas strike.  On one rather regular morning ride as I was thinking of the Monarch butterfly painting  that I just shipped off to my mother I had an epiphany that it would be neat to do a black and white ink version.  It would give me a chance to do some of the details I wasnt able to do with paint.
Clearly I didnt think this one through completely ( we will blame it on the morning traffic and being jacked up on caffeine)
because I have perfection issues with pen and ink.  Perfection issues that I am unable to fully live up to.  Basically I usually end up ripping up the first 2-5 sketches before I either give up and never finish or finally accept  because it's hand drawn there will inevitably be imperfections.  Not sure why I have this issue - all I can say is it's more of my crazy train riding through.
The point of this riduculous story is I'm trying to persevere and here is what I've done so far:

beginning sketch

sketch #2 (cuz first one was just a  rough - didnt really start out that way but sure as hell ended up that way)
Picture
Sketch #2 ended up getting too rough - sketch above is #3 but black backround on butterfly wings was done in sharpie which didnt give me a consistently even black.  Most people this wouldn't of bothered them but me ......it eats away at my brain
Notice in sketch #3 I started playing around with pattern and design on the flower - none of which I liked
I'm hard to please i think

Sketch #4

not sure if it's still considered a sketch if you use paint .....

Adding Ink!
I do like my rapidograph pens.  Especially the really fine ones that allow crazy tine details

so that's as far as I've gotten but this weekend is Daytona.  I plan on parking myself at the kitchen table in front of my tv with my pens and my sketch while watching stock cars take lots of left turns at almost 200 mph.  It's gonna be a good time!
